MHS STUCO keeping track of our yards walked!!
The McAllen Memorial Student Council held a Yards for Yeardley rally. It started on April 24 when we told Yeardley's story over the campus intercom system. We then encouraged people to start walking on April 26 and record their yards. On May 3rd, we held a rally to finish our individual goals at our school track. As a Council, we reached and surpassed our goal of 1,000,000 yards. We walked 1,412,078 yards to raise awareness of relationship abuse!! We also had local television (Univision) showing up to cover the event, so we feel like we got to reach a lot more than just our High School. We are still encouraging people to walk and to submit their yards walked to us! We have posted this on the cafeteria to keep promoting awareness.
Why this is important to me...
As a Student Council of a High School, we believe it is on us to make sure our youth is fully educated on the dangers of relationship abuse! We can change the conversation and make sure we eradicate violence in our relationships!
