One Love Foundation is Among 11 Organizations in 2020 Q2 Awarded Grants
To Support Survivors of Domestic Violence and Critical Services Focused on Mental Health Resiliency and Positive Relationship Skills
The One Love Foundation has been named recipient of a “Healthy Relationships Community Grant,” through a joint effort between Major League Baseball (MLB) and the MLB Players Association (MLBPA). A grant of $50,000 will be made to the organization, which is part of a total $1 million commitment thus far from MLB and MLBPA to 21 organizations across the United States. The focus areas for the organizations receiving funding include support for survivors of domestic violence, mental health resiliency, and developing positive relationship skills in youth as a preventive measure to break the cycle of violence.
Dedicated to improving the relationship health of future generations, One Love has educated more than 1.1 million young people through educational workshops, both in-person and online, by teaching them to see the signs of unhealthy and healthy relationship behaviors.
“One Love is incredibly grateful to Major League Baseball and the Players Association for helping fund and shine a light on these critical issues,” said One Love Chief Executive Officer Katie Hood. “We believe awareness saves lives and MLB and MLBPA’s endorsement will further our message to their global audience.”
The joint donation for the “Healthy Relationships Community Grant” represents an ongoing commitment by MLB and the MLBPA to provide support to causes that assist vulnerable populations, which has historically included financial assistance toward disaster relief and recovery as well as human trafficking prevention.
One Love was founded in honor of Yeardley Love, a 22-year old college student whose life was tragically cut short when she was killed by her ex-boyfriend. Her family learned during the trial that her death could have been prevented had they recognized the signs of an abusive relationship. For more information, visit joinonelove.org.
