Again, read this carefully because there’s information in here that’s super important. If you see something in ALL CAPS, we’re not screaming,… it just means it’s EXTRA SUPER IMPORTANT. We’ve done our best to write these in plain English (versus legalese), so you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into. If for some reason you’re unsure or have suggestions, email us. Email us with any questions or suggestions, and in return we’ll highlight the super-important parts to make it easier. If you have any questions or suggestions, email us.
One Love is a closed community and email addresses are requested to participate in some of our member-only features. Our promise to you: If we collect information from you, we use it only for the purposes for which it was collected and the limited purposes outlined below. We will not sell or share your personally identifiable information with any third party.
1.When Do We Collect Information
An Account on the Services has the standards: your username, password, and email address, with the optional addition of other relevant information (like your mailing address or your phone number) should you choose to add it in your personal profile. More specifically, here are some ways we do or could collect information: (1) sharing personal information (name, email) when signing up for our newsletter email communications or registering with us to form an account (“Account”), (2) sharing personal information when you submit a report via our contact form, (3) sharing personal information when you post comments, (4) sharing contact information (e.g., Twitter username, Facebook account name) through our platform, (5) signing up to be a member online by email or Facebook Connect via our mobile app or sms, (6) participating in a survey where an email address is requested; (7) sharing other personal information with use through forms, contest entries, or other communications with us.
2. What Information We Collect and How We Use It
Personal Information. “Personal Information” refers to information that tells us specifically who you are, such as your name, phone number, email and postal address.
Accounts. An Account on the Services has these standards: your name, your email address, your password. In some occasions, we may ask for addition pieces of information that helps us get you the things you need (i.e., mailing addresses, birthdays, etc).
Emails. The email address you provided through our newsletter subscription or any other data collection method is entirely opt-in. Fun fact: We will NEVER email you to ask for your password or other Account information; if you receive such an email, forward it to us.
Google Analytics. The Google Analytics features One Love has implemented is based on Display Advertising (e.g., Remarketing, Google Display Network Impression Reporting, the DoubleClick Campaign Manager integration, or Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting). Visitors can opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network ads using the Ads Settings. One Love will not facilitate the merging of personally-identifiable information with non-personally identifiable information previously collected from Display Advertising features that is based on the DoubleClick cookie unless you have robust notice of, and the user’s prior affirmative (i.e., opt-in) consent to, that merger. If you wish to hide all of your browsing behavior you can use Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Information We Get from Surveys, Contests and Promotions. The email address associated with your Account when you comment may be used in conjunction with contests and promotions hosted on the Services to notify you if you have won. Email addresses provided in comments may also be used as a customer service and policy violation contact mechanism. We will not provide your email addresses to any third party.
User Content. By default, all sharing through the Services is public, and when you provide us with content it is published so that anyone can view it. Content published and shared publicly is accessible to everyone (including search engines), so you may lose any privacy rights you might have regarding that content. In addition, information shared publicly may be copied and shared throughout the Internet, including through features native to the Services. While you are free to delete your Account, content can stay public through re-blogging of your content by others, and due to technological limitations inherent to the Services, copies of that content may exist elsewhere and be retained indefinitely, including in our systems.
Information Related to Your Web Browser. We automatically receive and record information from your web browser when you interact with the Services, such as your browser type and version, what sort of device you are using, your operating system and version, the Services or a service that referred you to the Services, the date and time of each web request you make, your screen display information, and information from any cookies we have placed on your web browser. Web browser-related information is used to enhance your experience with the Services (for example, by personalization) and to allow us to improve the Services; it is not, however, used in a manner that would identify you personally.
IP Address Information. Under certain circumstances, such as when you log into the Services, load a web page from the Services, we may collect and store your IP Address. We generally use IP Address information to fight spam, malware, and identity theft; we also may use it, in the future, to personalize the Services for you. IP Address information is also used by us to generate aggregate, non-identifying, information about use of the Services.
Location Information. In some cases we collect and store information about where you are located, such as converting your IP address into a rough geolocation. We may use location information to improve and personalize the Services for you.
Do Not Track. Do Not Track (DNT) is a privacy preference that users can set in some web browsers, allowing users to opt out of tracking by websites and online services. At the present time, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has not yet established universal standards for recognizable DNT signals and therefore, One Love and the Services do not recognize DNT.
Information Related to Your Mobile Device. We may collect and store information related to your mobile device, such as your phone number, if you provide it to use. We may use this information to improve the Services, such as by allowing you to verify your Account by text message. You may revoke consent to receive text messages at any time by contacting One Love, including by texting STOP. When you use our mobile app, we may collect the MAC address or other technical information from your mobile device; location information through GPS; WiFi, Bluetooth, or similar technologies.
Email Tracking. If you correspond with us by email, we may retain the content of your email messages, your email address and our responses. We may also retain any messages you send through www.joinonelove.org. We may also place information in our emails to you (such as a web beacon) that allows us to measure our email deliverability.
Derived Information. Every time you interact with us online, it gives us one more data point about who you are and what you’re all about. Sometimes we analyze your actions on the Services in order to derive or infer characteristics that may be descriptive of you. These characteristics are used to improve and personalize the Services.
3. How We Share Your Information
Depending on the portion of the Services that you have interacted with, we may use your information in a number of ways. We will never sell your email information or phone number nor will we ever sell or publish personally identifiable information. We use the personal information you submit to operate, maintain, and provide to you the features and functionality of www.joinonelove.org.
If for some reason we think sharing your information may be useful (to you!), we wouldn’t share information (a) without your permission to share that information; (b) without prior notice that your information will be shared, and with whom; or (c) unless the information is aggregate information (aka you can’t be identified).
Information Shared with the Public Through The Services. As noted above, by default, content published through the Services is shared with the public, and this is an important feature of the Services. Because this kind of information can be seen by anyone and may be indexed by search engines, you should be careful in what you choose to disclose publicly and make sure it is information you want to share with everyone.
Information Shared Between the Services. We may, if possible, aggregate information about your use of multiple Services and use that consolidated information to improve how the Services operate, and to develop new Services.
Information We May Share with Third Parties. We may share or disclose non-private information, aggregate information, or other information that does not personally identify you with people and entities that we do business with.
4. How We Protect Your Information
One Love cares about the integrity and security of your personal information. We cannot, however, ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to One Love or guarantee that your information on the service may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical, or managerial safeguards. Your privacy settings may also be affected by changes to the functionality of third-party providers, such as social networks. One Love is not responsible for the functionality or security measures of any third party.
To protect your privacy and security, we take reasonable steps (such as requesting a unique password) to verify your identity before granting you access to your account. You are responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your unique password and account information, and for controlling access to your email communications from One Love, at all times.
5. Compromise of Personal Information
6. Your Choices About Your Information
You may, of course, decline to submit personally identifiable information through www.joinonelove.org, in which case One Love may not be able to provide certain services to you. You can review and correct the information about you that One Love keeps on file by contacting us directly at [email protected]onelove.org
7. How to Delete Your Account and What Happens When You Delete Your Account
If you want to delete your Account, you can do so at any time. We hate to see you go, but we believe it should be easy for you to delete your account. You can delete your account by emailing us and providing proof of authority over the Account. What constitutes “proof of authority” will vary depending on the circumstances, but generally will require sufficient identifying information so that we can be confident you are the Account owner. Deleting your Account may not fully remove the content you have published from our systems, as caching of, backups of, copies of, or references to your Account information may not be immediately removed. In addition, given the nature of sharing on the Services, some of the public activity on your Account prior to deletion may remain stored on our servers and accessible to the public.
We don’t censor content based on political or ideological point of view or of a critical nature. We do reserve the right to delete content that is off-topic, “spammy” in nature, abusive, uses excessive foul language, or includes ad hominem attacks. Frankly, we want content to be nice, constructive thoughts on how to create great social change around the issue of relationship violence! If you see content like this, please help us maintain our community by flagging it.
All content contributed to One Love must adhere to the following policy, and may be edited or removed at One Love’s discretion if it is deemed to be in violation of this policy. Hate speech. Racism, sexism and homophobia will not be tolerated!
Language and Threats. Please watch your language and respect other people’s views, beliefs and emotions. We reserve the right to remove any content that might be found extremely offensive or threatening.
Triggers. Relationship violence can be a sensitive issue. In some cases, people who use our Services either have experienced a violent or emotionally abusive relationship or may identify themselves as an abuser. It’s hard to navigate these complicated feelings when they arise and so we ask that our Community is respectful of these conversations as they unfold.
No Spam. Spam will be removed. Although we acknowledge criticism of our articles, our writers, and any other content or person represented on the Services, we will not allow misrepresentation. We will distinguish between constructive arguments and smear tactics.
Relevancy. Please keep conversations relevant. Off-topic content is subject to removal in order to keep the thread on track.

Grant of Rights. You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you upload or otherwise submit to, or make available on, the Service. By posting, uploading, submitting or otherwise making available Content, you give us a worldwide, perpetual, fully-sublicensable (through multiple tiers), transferable, irrevocable, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to use, host, store, reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, re-arrange, publish, publicly perform, publicly display, and distribute such Content in any manner or media whatsoever, for any purpose whatsoever, including, without limitation, in connection with our Services.
The Service is a public platform and other users of the Service may, and you hereby grant all users of the Service the right to, search for, see, and/or use any Content that you make publicly available through the Service to the extent permitted by the features and functionalities of the Service.
You agree that we may use your feedback, suggestions, or ideas in any way, including, without limitation, in future modifications of the Service, other products or services, advertising or marketing materials. You grant us a perpetual, worldwide, fully transferable, sublicensable, irrevocable, fully-paid up, royalty free license to use the feedback, suggestions, and ideas you provide to us in any way.
By submitting Content, you also grant us the right to use your name, picture, likeness, voice, and biographical information in connection with the use or publication of your Content.
In connection with Content you upload, submit, post, or otherwise make available via the Service, you affirm, represent, and warrant that: you own or have the necessary licenses, rights, consents, and permissions to use and authorize us to use such Content in the manner contemplated by this Agreement. You further agree that you will not submit material that is copyrighted, protected by trade secret or otherwise subject to third party proprietary rights, including, without limitation, privacy and publicity rights, unless you are the owner of such rights or have written permission from their rightful owner to post the material and to grant to us all of the rights granted herein.
9. Community Moderation
Every user in the One Love community acts as a moderator through reporting abuse to our [email protected] email. Users are asked to ‘if they see something, do something’ about inappropriate content. When inappropriate user generated content is found the owner may be contacted and the post may be edited or removed as needed. In the case of a message that suggests a user may be in danger (either from themselves or someone else), the user may be referred to a One Love partner emergency help line or appropriate organization. Information regarding these organizations is publicly available at: http://www.joinonelove.org/real_time_resources
10. Children’s Privacy
Protecting the privacy of young children is especially important. For that reason, One Love does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13 or knowingly allow such persons to register for www.joinonelove.org accounts. If you are under 13, please do not send any information about yourself to us, including your name, address, telephone number, or email address. No one under age 13 is allowed to provide any personal information to or on www.joinonelove.org. In the event that we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact us at [email protected]
